Duquesne Light covers Allegheny and Beaver counties and occupies its own PJM transmission zone — DUQ — which is geographically small and electrically distinct from the FirstEnergy territories that surround it. Pittsburgh's commercial load is now anchored by UPMC and Allegheny Health, the universities, and a robotics and software sector built on top of them, with specialty metals still carrying real industrial demand. Hospital and lab load is flat, continuous and enormous, which is the profile that rewards longer fixed terms; the mistake we correct most often here is a health system buying on a twelve-month cycle when its load shape justifies locking three to five years at the right moment in the forward curve.

Retail is not the dominant sector in this territory, where hospital systems, universities, robotics and software, and legacy specialty metals carry most of the commercial load. That is an advantage worth using: a retail load is unfamiliar enough locally that it is routinely priced off generic assumptions rather than off your actual usage. A high during business hours, lower overnight profile at 100,000-500,000 kWh/month is the specific thing we take to market, and the contract structure follows from it: fixed, indexed, or block-and-index, sized to your actual baseload rather than to a nameplate figure.
