Pennsylvania implemented the Electric Choice and Competition Act in 1997 which allowed consumers a deregulated energy market. For the utility to be competitive, they were required to unbundle their services and sell their generation assets to purchase power at wholesale along with new competitors. This state has had a successful transition to deregulation as already over 200 million residents have made the switch while the market remains competitive and customers are saving money!
