Municipal & Government Energy Management in the Central Valley

The Central Valley runs on pumping. Agricultural load here is violently seasonal — near-zero in winter, enormous through the irrigation season — and PG&E maintains dedicated agricultural schedules precisely because a general commercial rate prices that shape badly. The mistake we see most often is a processing facility or packing house sitting on a general commercial schedule when an agricultural one fits, or the reverse after a facility diversified. Add the summer on-peak window, which collides directly with afternoon pumping and cold storage pull-down, and the demand component becomes the largest controllable line on a valley bill.

Municipal & Government is not the dominant sector in this territory, where irrigated agriculture, food processing, oil production and inland distribution carry most of the commercial load. That is an advantage worth using: a municipal & government load is unfamiliar enough locally that it is routinely priced off generic assumptions rather than off your actual usage. A varies widely by facility type profile at 200,000-800,000 kWh/month is the specific thing we take to market, and the contract structure follows from it: fixed, indexed, or block-and-index, sized to your actual baseload rather than to a nameplate figure.
